Parental Guidance
Dedicated & Caring Staff
At EAC Activity Camps we take our responsibilities for your children extremely seriously - all aspects of security and safety are considered and we insist on the highest standards from both our staff, and our venues.
The skill and enthusiasm of our dedicated staff has been the single most important factor behind our success over the past seventeen years. Their ability to motivate and relate to young people is second to none. They are mainly graduates, or undergraduates who hold, or are studying for Physical Education, Bachelor of Education, or Leisure and Recreation Management degrees.
EAC staff undergo a strict selection procedure, beginning with an interview. They are selected for their maturity, qualifications, enthusiasm, experience and common sense. At least two referees are contacted and asked to complete a confidential reference form and all candidates are checked for criminal convictions through The Criminal Records Bureau. All relevant qualifications held by staff are also thoroughly checked for authenticity with the appropriate issuing organisation.
All our staff attend comprehensive pre-camp training and orientation days. These courses cover a range of topics, from security, fire drills, policies and procedures, to safety guidelines and site-specific risk assessments for each and every activity. Meetings between the Camp Management Team, Group Captains and Key Staff take place on a daily basis and a Company Director visits each site regularly, all to ensure that our procedures are clearly understood and followed. Staff/child ratios vary according to the age and size of the group, but never exceed 1:8.
Where necessary, EAC staff provide a safety briefing at the beginning of each activity, particularly where safety equipment is required.
We conform to guidelines issued by the respective local authority social services department under the requirements of the Day Care Standards Act 2000, OFSTED, the Criminal Record's Bureau, The Scottish Commission for Regulation of Care, all relevant national sporting governing bodies and the Activity Centres (Young Persons') Safety Act 1995.
Security
We pay a great deal of attention to security at EAC. Our locations and camp facilities have been carefully chosen with safety as a prime consideration and all sites have defined boundaries with secure perimeter fencing. All staff wear EAC Activity Camp uniforms so that they are easily recognisable. Anyone visiting a camp must receive a visitor badge from the Management Team before being admitted.
Everyone who makes a Day Camp booking will be sent a 'Signature Form' with their confirmation. This form needs to be signed by any person who will be collecting your child and must be brought to the camp or given to the staff supervising their transport, on your child's first day. At the end of each day, the person collecting your child will sign the form and the signature will be checked to ensure it matches the existing signatures.
Insurance
Optional insurance cover has been arranged through Insurance Brokers, who are acknowledged experts within the field of activity holidays and outdoor pursuits. The cost, which includes an EAC administration charge, is £20.00 per week per person. The policy covers cancellation and curtailment, personal public liability, medical expenses, personal accident benefit and loss of personal baggage and items. A certificate detailing the cover is sent with your confirmation. EAC strongly recommends you purchase insurance and we will automatically add the cost of this insurance to your invoice unless you write 'NO' in the appropriate box on the booking form.
Food
Day Campers are welcome to bring their own packed lunches, although for a supplement of £3.60 per day, we can provide an EAC Picnic Lunch. This healthy, nutritious alternative is designed to appeal to children with a balanced diet. Children who bring their own lunches are recommended to store them in a cool bag.
Health Matters
Along with your final confirmation you will be sent a confidential medical form for each child attending camp. This MUST be completed in full and brought along on the first day of camp. Each site has a sick bay and first aiders are on site at all times. We also have pre-established links with local doctors, dentists and hospitals in case they are needed.
Valuables
EAC recommend that children do not bring valuable items to camp such as computer consoles, mobile phones, radios or expensive watches. Staff are not responsible for any personal belongings and all children are advised to deposit items for safe keeping with the Camp Director. All lost property is kept for two months after each camp and, if not reclaimed, is donated to charity.
Opening Times
All main daily activities start at 9.00am and finish at 5.00pm, however parents may drop off their children for the Day Camps from 7.45am and collect them up until 6.30pm. The children will be fully supervised at all times and will have the opportunity to relax, or take part in quieter games prior to their journey home.
Clothing
We recommend that children wear practical and comfortable clothing, such as shorts and t-shirts, or jeans and sweatshirts, appropriate to the weather conditions. Campers should also bring swimwear on a daily basis. In hot weather a cap, or sunhat is essential.
Certificates and Awards
Everybody who attends EAC receives at least one EAC Activity Camps certificate in recognition of their progress throughout their time with us. Presentations take place on a Friday afternoon from 4.30pm.
