Business English Course Information
The Business English course aims to equip you to be able to function in an English-speaking business environment. Your course will focus on general business skills and on improving your communication skills for working situations. You will be asked to complete a business needs analysis before starting your course. Your needs analysis will then be discussed with you on your first day and a suitable plan of study will be drawn up by your teacher.
If you are interested in taking a Business English examination while you are studying with us, then we can arrange for you to take the Trinity ‘Spoken English for Work' exam. This is an oral exam which will demonstrate your proficiency in English in the workplace.
An EAC Business English Certificate and detailed academic report commenting on your progress, language proficiency and recommendations for further study will also be awarded to you on successful completion of your course.
Course content
The course is based on key business areas, including sales and marketing, financial controls, project management, leadership etc, and you will receive practice in key business situations, for example making telephone calls, participating at meetings, giving presentations, preparing reports. You will use role-play, discussion, case studies and multimedia business resources. The focus will be on developing your listening and speaking skills as well as the building of your general business vocabulary.
Course materials
The materials you will use on your course will be taken from a variety of specialised business course books as well as more authentic materials from business journals, the press, websites and the media. All course materials are included, although we would recommend you buy an A4 folder to keep any handouts your teacher gives you and a notebook to organise your new vocabulary and language notes. A good dictionary is also very useful and we can advise you on which one would be best for you.
