Before reading the job description below, please ensure that you meet the following minimum criteria:
- Coaching experience/ qualification and a proven interest in your specialist area – Arts and Crafts/ Drama/ Football or Tennis
- Previous formal experience of working with children/ young people in a similar or related environment is essential
- Ability to design, using the EAC framework, a range of lessons/ coaching sessions for children of a mixed ability level
- Ability and confidence to lead from the front and by example – you will be required to lead and where appropriate, participate in activities on site – which will not be limited to your specialist area.
- Ability to use own initiative and work as part of a team.
- Responsible, friendly and approachable personality.
- Available to attend induction usually held 2 days previous to commencement of contract at camp location.
Available to work for entire contracted time (EAC cannot accommodate holiday requests during the period of time that summer school is operating)
Job Description
Title: Activity Specialist/ Group Captain (Football/ Drama/ Arts and Crafts)
Responsible to: Camp Director/ Assistant Camp Director
Hours: 42 hours per week
Non-residential Group Captains will work Monday to Friday only, between the hours of 7.45am and 6.30pm. However, if residential on site, employees will also be required to perform limited pastoral duties
Main Duties
The Activity Specialists are responsible to the Camp Director and are essentially employed as Group Captains with responsibility for providing specific activities for part of their working week. More specifically your duties will include but are not limited to:
- Providing coaching/ guidance in your specific activity to groups of children as required.
- Formulating a program for your specialist activity using EAC guidance
- Where applicable, designing and delivering a “show” at the end of the program
- Assuming the role of Group Captain when not coaching/ guiding activity specialism
- Ensuring the children are supervised and safe at all times
- Ensuring that the children are constantly occupied and entertained.
- Ensuring the children enjoy their time at camp!
- Any other duties as deemed reasonable and necessary by the Camp Director
Accommodation and Pastoral Duties
Where available and in return for pastoral duties, EAC will provide accommodation and full board free of charge if required.
Pastoral duties will include:
- Where required, assisting group leaders with getting students settled at the end of the night
- Where required, assisting the group leaders with getting the students up in the mornings
- Responding to general emergencies (eg: Fire Alarm) at all times
- Each staff member will be timetabled for one evening per week when they will be expected to remain on site and respond to emergencies/ problems as required.
In some centres this duty will also involve “Bedtime Patrol” ie: patrol
corridors until the children are settled in their rooms/dorms.
Induction and Set up Days
You are required to attend an induction day and a set-up day prior to camp starting.
