Before reading the job description below, please ensure that you meet the following minimum criteria:
- Qualified to NVQ level 2 or equivalent in childcare or related environment. (Applicants in their final 2 years of a teaching degree or similar degree level qualification can be considered)
- Ideally, previous experience of working in an activity camp environment, preferably in a similar role.
- Ability and confidence to use own initiative lead from the front and by example, helping to foster a team atmosphere through encouraging and supporting staff in their daily duties and providing assistance and advice as required.
- Excellent organisational skills - you will be required to assist with the coordination of all elements of the centre - staffing, finance, liason with head office and on site staff as well as daily liason with parents. You may also be required to liase with visiting OfSTED inspectors (site specific)
- Ability to work well under pressure and adapt efficiently to an ever-changing environment.
- Available to attend induction (expenses paid where applicable) prior to commencement of contract
Available to work for entire contracted time (EAC cannot accommodate holiday requests during the period of time that summer school is operating
Job Description
Title: Assistant Camp Director (Non-Residential)
Hours: As required/ minimum 42 hours per week
Responsible To: Camp Director
Main Duties
The Assistant Camp Director is responsible to the Camp Director for assisting in all aspects of managing the Day Camp. In the absence of the Camp Director, the Assistant Camp Director will assume responsibility for the running of the Camp. More specifically your duties will include but are not limited to:
- Welcoming clients to the camp
- Customer Service - dealing with parental enquiries and requests
- Assisting with the preparation and amendment of registers for the following week and day
- Helping to ensure that all activities are conforming to the risk assessments and operating procedures
- Assist with maintaining staff excellence
- Chair Staff meetings in the absence of the Camp Director
- Assist with distribution of T-Shirts, Certificates and Prizes
- Ensuring that every activity is operating efficiently, effectively and in accordance with safety standards
- Liasing with EAC's Reservations Dept regarding current, past and future bookings as necessary
- Accounting and finance of petty cash and receipts taken in the absence of Camp Director
- Dealing with outside inspectors from OfSTED if required
- Helping to ensure all staff are issued with uniforms and that they are worn at all times
- Assuming the role of Camp Director in the event of the Camp Director's absence
- Any other duties as deemed reasonable and necessary by the Camp Director
Accommodation and Pastoral Duties
Where available and in return for pastoral duties, EAC will provide accommodation and full board free of charge if required.
Pastoral duties will include:
- Where required, assisting group leaders with getting students settled at the end of the night
- Where required, assisting the group leaders with getting the students up in the mornings
- Responding to general emergencies (eg: Fire Alarm) at all times
- Each staff member will be timetabled for one evening per week when they will be expected to remain on site and respond to emergencies/ problems as required.
In some centres this duty will also involve "Bedtime Patrol" ie: patrol corridors until the children are settled in their rooms/dorms.
Induction and Set up Days
You are required to attend an induction day and a set-up day prior to camp starting.
