EAC young learners make headlines in York

Students at our summer school in York have hit the headlines by making a giant map of the UK – using litter!

More than 100 students aged 12 to 19 years from Spain, Italy, Hong Kong, Russia and China took part in the challenge to create a huge map of Great Britain made out of pieces of rubbish.

The students, who were attending our summer language course at St Peter’s School in York, even constructed models of well-known British landmarks out of carrier bags, boxes, yoghurt pots and toilet rolls as part of the task.

Centre manager of the summer school, Robert Ellarby, said: “The purpose of the challenge was to encourage children of various nationalities to mingle and speak to each other while working together. The children learned about British landmarks that we all take for granted, but which are completely new to them.”
